The Northern Beaches connects to Sydney via three road corridors: the Spit Bridge via Military Road and Spit Road at the southern end, Roseville Bridge via Warringah Road through the middle, and Mona Vale Road from Pymble and St Ives serving the upper northern suburbs. Airport transfers from the Northern Beaches are among the longest in Sydney. There is no direct motorway connection. Journeys route south through the city via the Spit Bridge or Roseville Bridge, onto the Warringah Freeway, across the Harbour Bridge or through the Tunnel, then onward to the airport. Manly and the southern beaches allow 45–70 minutes. Upper Northern Beaches suburbs including Avalon, Newport and Palm Beach should allow 75–100 minutes depending on conditions and time of day. Booking in advance with a confirmed price removes the uncertainty that comes with unbooked transport on this corridor.

Manly draws consistent hotel and corporate visitor traffic. The upper Northern Beaches, particularly Palm Beach, Whale Beach and Avalon, have strong private and residential demand from one of Sydney's highest-wealth coastal communities.
